A Bunch of Fives

So when all is said and done, we analyse where, when and the quantity of times a ball has landed in the back of a net, past and present, or failed to, and somehow deduce why it was destined to be so. That’s the unenviable task of our resident expert Professor Statto, who brings us the benefit of his incisive intellect allied to half a century of football scholarship. And not least, his wry sense of humour.您的瀏覽器可能無法支援顯示此圖片。

He leaves the predictions to others, but he’ll provide you with the ammunition to sustain your challenge through your Score Five campaign. He’ll keep you up-to-date with what’s happening in the competition. He’ll lead you along byways exploring weird and wonderful facets of the game past and present, but always in his own inimitable style.

Some comedian once suggested that “98% of all statistics are made up”, but the Prof. cordially invites you all to verify any information he presents – if only because he does most of the calculations in his head. Professor Statto and his amazing statistics.

World Cup Scene-Setter.... Round 39.... Round 38.... Round 38.... Round 37

Greetings All,

It's Score Five Supremo stepping in for our old friend Prof Statto who we reported isn't feeling too good right now. I couldn't possibly entertain you in the same manner as he, but I'll do my best to give you a few headlines facts and figures and will add to this as time permits.

So how did you fare? The party spoilers came in the form of the USA and the host nation South Africa went out in style becoming the first hosts not to make it beyond the group stage. Nonetheless they can take some satisfaction in knowing that their first goal - the first goal of the comp - was one of "the" goals of the tournament and despite having an almost impossible task to qualify in their last game, they stuck to it gallantly, urged on by those thousands of ear splitting v v v s. Sadly no one won our jackpot or mini jackpot, so we created another for the last 16 stage, and I'm delighted to tell you that we are on the verge of signing a deal that will see us offer the US$50,000 jackpot pool competition for the entire forthcoming EPL season. So watch our announcements carefully.

Our group stage winner is an Englishman, John Hillier - thereby doing his bit to redeem a very indifferent performance by his national team. So congrats to you chum and the others who finished in the Global Top 20, including 6 out of the 101 national bests, as follows:

It took 124 points or more to register on the Global Top 20 chart and these folks between them averaged 126.65 points accumulated by getting 25.15 correct results, 40.9 correct indiviual goals scored correct, 8.05 perfect fives, 9.5 correct bankers (they were only worth 1 point each in this stage) and 17.9 points from the group winner and runner up bonus. As regards the latter, our friend Dipesh from Nepal clearly got hit by some snow blindness as he failed to enter andy group bonus predictions and consequently finished on an impressive 122 points, just outside the top 20. But oh, imagine...if he had and scored the average 17.9, let's call that 17 points...he'd have won this stage of the comp. Oh dear. Maybe be can console himself by winning the last 16 jackpot prize and some cool banker predictions which go up to 3 points value then.

I'll be back later to add a few tid bits and further analysis folks, but in the meantime you'll have to excuse me as the thunderstorms and rain appear to be stopping here after some 12 hours and I have a couple of very anxious four legged friends looking at me with pleading eyes!!

All the best from me and the team, and here's to Statto's speedy recovery,

Supremo
